Nyamininia Primary School teachers who were accused of assaulting a learner for “underperforming” have been interdicted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The two teachers Paul Otieno Osogo and Maurine Awuor Otieno. The teachers had previously been arraigned in court and pleaded not guilty.

On Tuesday 30th August, the teachers’ Lawyer Edwin Ooro while calling for the release of the accused, told Siaya Principal Magistrate Lester Simiyu that the teachers had been interdicted and therefore were not in a position to interfere with the case.

The prosecution counsel Tracy Nambisia had sought to have the teachers denied bond over fear of witness interference.

Nambisia said the accused could intimidate the student and cause them not to attend court because they know them very well.

They were further remanded for two days awaiting a ruling on their bond application on Thursday, September 1.

A video of the incident went viral in July 2022, prompting the Ministry of Education to take action, the student was protesting alleged frequent beatings for not performing according to the teachers’ expectations.

The learner had attained 346 marks out of 400 marks and the teachers were not pleased with it.

A well-wisher has already transferred the victim from Nyamininia Primary school to another school.
