Teacher unions in the country have censured the government over the manner in which it is treating Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers.
Both the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) say the government should look for funds in order to engage JSS teachers in better terms.
KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori and his KNUT counterpart Hezborne Otieno said it is wrong for the TSC to extend the teachers’ internship terms.

Speaking in Seme Sub-county during the burial of Mama Kezia Oyucho, mother of a TSC commissioner Timon Oyucho, Misori said some JSS teachers were being overworked yet the government is doing nothing about it.
Otieno on his part said KNUT will follow up on the collective bargaining agreement which has been lying somewhere, adding that all interns should be employed after one year.
He said teachers deserve a better pay, adding that those who have stagnated for years should now be promoted.
