Teacher fighting for his life in hospital after goon attack

A secondary school teacher is fighting for his life at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after he was attacked by unknown assailants on Saturday night.

A witness reported that the male teacher at Boruma Secondary School was heading home in the evening hours when he met the assailants.

“They landed on him and hacked him with machetes on the head and left him for dead,” he said.

He added that a Bodaboda rider passing by came to his rescue but he was beaten by the thugs who were reportedly dressed in police uniform, before he ran off.

The rider informed area Nyumba Kumi chairman who alerted police officers at Ibeno Police Station, and on finding them unresponsive, called Keumbu Police Station whose officers took the injured teacher to hospital and started investigations.

The hospital report indicated that the victim suffered from deep cuts on the forehead and the ribs but expressed hope over his recovery because he was responding positively to drugs.

“He received stitches on the wounds and the progress is good because he can walk and eat on his own,” said a nurse.

Keumbu Division Assistant Commissioner Joseph Muthoka condemned the attack and asked the Police to hasten investigations to quickly bring the suspects to book.

Residents at Ibeno village decried the rising insecurity in the area and blamed the local police for colluding with law breakers to terrorize instead of protecting them.

They appealed to the government to transfer police officers who have stayed at Ibeno Police Station for a long time.
