School girl dies after being denied treatment

A primary school teacher and a local chief have been killed in a suspected Al-Shabaab terror attack in Hulugho Sub-county, Garissa County, raising fresh concerns over the safety of educators and public servants in Kenya’s border regions.

The victims were identified as Hulugho Primary School teacher Stephen Musili and area chief Abdifatah Gani, who were fatally shot in an overnight attack on Sunday night, January 25, in Hulugho town.

According to security reports, the assailants first ambushed and killed the chief before setting his vehicle ablaze. The attackers later shot and killed the teacher outside his residence, in what authorities believe was a coordinated terrorist attack.

Confirming the deaths, Garissa Member of Parliament Edo Udgoon Siyad described the incident as a devastating loss to both their families and the Hulugho community.

“I send my condolences to the families of Chief Abdi Gani Owl and the dedicated teacher, both of whom served the Hulugho community with unwavering commitment,” Siyad said. “We condemn this senseless violence and stand united with all those affected.”
