Taveta Constituency Member of Parliament, MP John Bwire is set to officially launch the Taveta Elimu Bora Programme, an ambitious initiative set to provide free secondary education in all day secondary schools across the constituency in 2026.

The programme aims to ease the financial burden on parents while expanding access to education for learners from vulnerable backgrounds.

Under the plan, all day secondary schools in Taveta will offer free tuition, a move expected to significantly boost enrolment and retention rates.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Bwire said the initiative is anchored on the belief that no child should miss out on education due to lack of school fees.

“Our goal is clear, to ensure that more than 150 students from Taveta access university education by 2026. This programme is about investing in our children and securing the future of Taveta,” he said.

The Legislator added that beyond free secondary education, the Taveta Elimu Bora Programme also includes the disbursement of bursaries to secondary schools, targeting learners from needy households, as well as public engagement forums focused on improving academic standards and overall school performance within the constituency.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, terming it a bold and timely intervention at a time when many families are grappling with rising costs of living.

“This programme will give hope to many parents who have struggled to keep their children in school. It also sends a strong message that education remains a top priority in Taveta,” said a local.

Residents have been invited to attend the official launch, which will also serve as a platform for dialogue between leaders, parents, teachers and students on strengthening education outcomes in the region.

The launch ceremony will take place today from 8:00 am at Satoo Grounds, with leaders urging wananchi to turn up in large numbers and take ownership of the programme.

As Taveta positions itself for improved academic excellence, the Elimu Bora Programme is being viewed as a potential game-changer, one that could redefine access to education and open new opportunities for the constituency’s young generation.
