Due to poor performance of schools in Narok County in the past few years, the County Government has ordered for formation of a task force.
Governor Samuel Tunai has raised concerns over the 2017 KCSE and KCPE results by schools across the county.
During a one-day education stakeholders’ meeting at the Maasai Mara University, the decision to form the task force was reached.
The stakeholders, who included boards of management, head teachers, parents’ representatives, directors of education, Teachers Service Commission county representatives, county education minister and top practitioners in education sector, agreed to improve performance in the county.
Governor Tunai said that they were going to do whatever it takes to turn around the education of the children and that they will not take chances.
The 10-person task force was mandated to carry out a quarterly assessment of schools, ensure all schools enhance accountability of teachers and students, recommend modalities of benchmarking and approaches for motivation of teachers as well as students and a needs analysis of schools.
The Governor expressed dissatisfaction that 459 students, which is equivalent to 7.71 per cent out of 6,479 students who sat KCSE last year and qualified to join university.
