Tagitech Special School in Trans Mara, Narok County continues to defy the odds, recording impressive academic performance despite facing numerous challenges.
The institution, which caters to over 200 learners from within and beyond the County, has been hailed as a “beacon of hope” for special needs education in the region.
During a recent visit to the school, educationist and regional stakeholder Emily Ruto lauded the school’s efforts and the resilience of its learners and teachers.
“It is truly encouraging to see these students so determined to break the barriers of disability,” Ruto said. “This school is a beacon of hope, not just for Narok County, but for the entire country.”
Ruto expressed concern over several challenges faced by the school, including inadequate infrastructure, lack of learning equipment, food shortages, and understaffing—issues she said continue to hamper the learning environment.
“The conditions here are far from ideal. The school urgently needs better facilities, more staff, proper nutrition for the learners, and specialized equipment,” she noted.

Ruto made a passionate appeal to well-wishers, development partners, and the government to intervene and support the institution, stressing that children with special needs deserve equal opportunities to thrive.
“Learners with special needs have the ability to excel in life if given the right support. We cannot afford to leave them behind,” she added.
Teachers and learners at Tagitech Special School warmly welcomed the visit and the support expressed by stakeholders. They vowed to continue working hard and maintaining their strong academic record despite the tough circumstances.
“We are proud of what we’ve achieved so far, and we will keep pushing forward,” said one of the teachers.
As the demand for inclusive education grows, Tagitech Special School stands out as a shining example of what is possible when determination meets purpose—even in the face of adversity.
