The awards recognize and celebrate promising and innovative programmes, projects, and people that have made a positive impact on the education sector – on students, their teachers, or their education system – across the Commonwealth.

The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth  said  that Commonwealth recognizes the power of education to lift people out of poverty, support innovation and arm future generations with the skills and tools they need to respond to emerging challenges.

“The Commonwealth’s Education Awards for Good Practice recognizes and rewards those who have created innovative and effective solutions to education challenges. It also provides a space for discovery; an opportunity to uncover and share methods, strategies and tools that can help transform education across the Commonwealth,” she said.

She congratulated every individual, group and organizations that submitted their projects and the finalists for their commitment to  create solutions in the education sector.

Layne Robinson, the Head of Social Policy Development at the Commonwealth Secretariat thanked those who submitted their entries and congratulated the finalists.

She said they received 2462 entries from 32 countries and that 640 entries met the submission criteria.

“This year’s finalists have all made incredible contributions to the education systems across the Commonwealth. We are excited to showcase the innovation of these exceptional leaders in education,” she said.

She added that the awards were being presented to the selected finalists virtually due to the existence of the Covid-19 pandemic.

She further revealed that the impact of Covid-19 on the education sector is a timely topic being debated by education ministers and stakeholders at the Commonwealth Education Ministers Meeting.
