Principals have been asked to support games teachers from their schools to enable effective preparation of students for forthcoming competitions.

Speaking at Kioge Girls School in Kitutu Chache South constituency, former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) referee John Mokaya said that the support goes a long way in motivating the teachers and learners as well.

“I urge Principals to avoid being armchair managers in their schools and instead to walk around the field and play with learners sometimes because actions speak louder than words,” he said.

He asked teachers to involve themselves in sports with passion, citing teacher Bukky Onduso, whose devotion to sports has attracted the attention of education leaders.

Mokaya decried the poor preparation by the school even after they were picked as the venue for Mosocho Subzone Secondary Schools games on Thursday, forcing teachers from other schools to clear grass in their field.

Stating that sports are as valuable as academic work, he asked Principals to take disciplinary action against teachers who neglected their duty.

According to one of the games’ organizers Chrispus Anumda, the ball matches were graced by guest schools including Itierio, Ringa and Ibacho Secondary schools.

He said that they picked Kioge as the venue as one of the measures to open up the school to the community.

Kioge is one of the oldest Catholic-sponsored schools in the region but its development has been waning for years.

A survey of the school indicates an old shell of a school that shone in both education and extracurricular activities in the 1990s.
