Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has failed to appear in court for the trial of a case in which he is accused of forging his academic certificates.

The MP’s lawyers told trial magistrate Felix Kombo that the legislature was unable to attend court as he is currently involved in the Assumption of Office Committee that is organizing the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect William Ruto set for Tuesday, September 13.

The lawyers, however, urged the court to have the case proceed in Sudi’s absence, a request which was allowed.

The MP is charged for presenting forged education certificates to the  IEBC ahead of the 2013 general election.

The prosecution alleged that his Diploma Certificate in Business Management, issued by the Kenya Institute of Management, was forged.

Sudi is also accused of forging his KCSE certificate, purporting it to be a genuine document issued by the Kenya National Examination council (KNEC).

The legislature had denied the charges and is out on bond pending the hearing and determination of the case.

During the hearing, Tulwopng’etuny Primary School head teacher Simon Cherop told the court that the MP did not complete his primary school studies and that he left while in class seven.

The prosecution indicated that only two more witnesses will testify in the case that has been of public interest.

The matter was adjourned to November 22, 2022.
