By Peter Otuoro

Over 300 Teachers Service Commission (TSC) sub county Directors (SCDs) are attending a five-day training on the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Programme (SEQIP) at the ARC Hall in Egerton University, Nakuru that began on Monday, 24th October.

While speaking at the event, the National Chairperson of the SCDs forum, Benard Orwasa thanked the commission for organizing the training.

He noted that the training will give them an opportunity to interact with Directors from the Headquarters through whom they will learn how to improve on service delivery.

Orwasa added that it was an opportunity for the SCDs to share welfare issues and problems they were facing while in the field.

“We have a number of welfare issues that we will present to our seniors from the headquarters so they can act on them to improve service delivery in the field and help us work effectively. We have a lot of hope that all our issues will be addressed,” he said.

One of the SCDs who talked to Education News this morning said that they will use the forum to air their grievances to CEO Nancy Macharia and is hopeful that they will be acted upon..

“We are going through a lot of problems, among them is that a majority of us have not been promoted after working in the same position for many years,” said one of the SCDs who requested anonymity.

The event was  attended by Rift Valley Regional TSC Director Adow Bardad who officially opened the training on behalf of the Commission CEO.

All the 47 TSC County Directors are expected to attended the event together with officials from the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
