Sub-County Director of Education in Bungoma laid to rest in honour-filled ceremony

Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi Pepela, accompanied by Webuye East DCC Peter Yegon, KNUT second Vice Chair Agrey Namisi, members of the teaching fraternity, in Lelmokwo Village, Nandi County today, to bid farewell to Dr. Paul Rono, the immediate former Sub-county Director of Education for Webuye East.

A wave of sorrow swept through the education fraternity as teachers from Webuye East in Bungoma turned up in large numbers today at Lelmokwo village in Nandi County to bid a heartfelt farewell to the late Dr. Paul Rono, the immediate former Sub-County Director of Education for Webuye East.

The turnout, led by Webuye East Member of Parliament Hon. Martin Wanyonyi Pepela, Deputy County Commissioner Peter Yegon, officials from KNUT, KUPPET, KEPSHA, and KESSHA, as well as school heads, teachers, and NG-CDF staff, was a solemn testimony to the deep admiration and respect Dr. Rono commanded across the education sector.

Speaking during the funeral service, Hon. Wanyonyi paid glowing tribute to Dr. Rono, describing him as “a dedicated and passionate leader” whose stewardship transformed education standards in the subcounty.

“Dr. Rono’s love for education brought remarkable reforms to our schools. Under his leadership, academic performance in Webuye East rose dramatically—from position eight to position two,” he said.

The late was praised for his humility, visionary leadership, and dedication to teacher development and student success.

He spearheaded key reforms in school governance, implemented progressive policies, and fostered a culture of performance and integrity.

During his tenure, Webuye East Sub-County was recognised as the most improved education zone in the country following the latest KCSE cycle.

Although the exact cause of death has not been disclosed, the Ministry of Education is expected to issue an official statement. Funeral arrangements are ongoing.

His family and a powerful legacy survive Dr. Rono—one that teachers, students, and fellow leaders say will continue to inspire generations to come.
