Students who did not meet varsity entry grades urged to join TVET colleges

Students who did not qualify to go to university after KCSE examinations have been asked to join The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions.

Jared Nyagosia who is along serving instructor under TVET said the easiest way to solve unemployment crisis among the youth is to equip them with practical skills that are readily available in the Vocational Training Colleges.

Nyagosia who is also the chairman of Mwangaza Community Based Organization (CBO) challenged the youth to shed the negative attitude that vocational courses as a reserve for those who failed at school.

“I ask even those who completed University to join the Vocational Training College to gain practical knowledge that will add value to their degrees for employability.” He said.

The chairman who spoke to the youth in Kisii town named a variety of courses like Hair Beauty and Therapy, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical Engineering and Leather Work as some of the courses on high market demand.

“Train in this courses and you will find employment looking for you instead of you looking for it after completion of your course.” He said.

Nyagosia asked parents and teachers to provide regular guidance to their children to enable them make right choices in life.

He also appealed to the youth not to look down upon the advice of their parents.
