Students urged to uphold discipline

Secondary school students have been urged to shun engaging in indiscipline acts and behavior that is going to ruin their character as seen from last year’s rampant burning of school property.

Embu County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo made a passionate appeal to learners to concentrate on what took them to school to mold a better future for themselves and the nation.

Speaking during a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms at All Saints Kigari Day Secondary School in Embu North, Galgalo impressed on the students that good morals and character that shapes one’s future are nurtured at a young age.

He regretted that school property of huge value went up in flames due to arson incidents causing suffering on parents who were required to pay for reconstruction expenses.

The administrator warned students against participating in criminal activities noting that they will be dealt with by the law.

He mentioned the case where eight students from four secondary schools in the County were facing attempted arson charges.

“My appeal is on all stakeholders including teachers, parents and spiritual leaders to join hands in instilling good values in children,” he said.

Embu County Police Commander Daniel Rukunga also condemned the act of destroying school property by students.

He regretted that four dormitories in Embu County were razed in suspected arson incidents adding that any student found culpable will face the wrath of the law.

Galgalo at the same time announced that the government plans to build 158 CBC classrooms in 151 schools in the county at a cost of Sh124.5 million.

He urged the contractors undertaking the construction works to deliver high quality and timely work as per the specifications provided by the government.

The pioneer learners under the new CBC system will transition to junior secondary school next year.
