Students across the country have been urged to attend motivational seminars in schools to improve their academic performance and development.
Addressing the students at Mwereni Secondary School, Jane Kabuta urged them to adopt a more positive outlook on learning, which can lead to a greater enjoyment of the school and a stronger desire to continue learning.
She also emphasises the importance of students fostering a belief in their ability to succeed, which is crucial for both academic and personal growth, by providing a sense of direction and purpose in their learning journey. This helps students persevere through complex tasks, setbacks, and challenges rather than giving up easily.
However, it also fuels a desire to learn, making students more willing to put in the effort required for academic success and equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to navigate the complexities of the modern world and make meaningful contributions.

Through student talks, motivation is sparked, igniting a sense of purpose that extends beyond the classroom and empowers children to set and pursue their goals. By encouraging them to work harder in school, their self-image can be positively translated into other areas of their lives.
By understanding the importance of motivation and implementing effective strategies, educators and parents can play a vital role in shaping students into confident, capable, and lifelong learners, said Janet Wanjalla, the school principal.
According to Jane, motivating students to pursue academic excellence is not just about grades, but also about fostering a mindset and skill set that empowers them to thrive in all aspects of their lives, both present and future.
Through these programs, schools attract students who can readily see the values in the course material and feel that the learning environment is supportive of them.
It also facilitates opportunities for students to work together, share ideas, and learn from one another. Peer support can be a powerful motivator that fosters a sense of community within the classroom.
She therefore challenges teachers to cultivate positive relationships with students by showing genuine interest in their well-being, establishing clear learning objectives and expectations, and ensuring students understand what is expected of them.
