Students at Narok Boys High School were on Tuesday thrown into turmoil after Form Three learners went on strike, torching one of the school’s dormitories in protest over what they described as inadequate food and high school fees.
The incident caused minor damage to the dormitory, with no injuries reported.
According to sources within the school, the unrest began in the evening hours when a group of Form Three students expressed frustration over the quantity and quality of meals provided at the institution.
The learners also raised concerns over what they termed as high school fees, arguing that the cost was not in line with the services offered.
Security personnel and school administrators intervened promptly, managing to contain the situation before the fire spread to other buildings.
Firefighting efforts ensured that the damage remained minimal, allowing the school to avert a major disaster.

Form four students and Grade 10 learners did not participate in the strike and continued with their normal school routine as the situation stabilized.
Learning for the affected form three class was, however, temporarily disrupted as investigations commenced.
Efforts to obtain a comment from the school’s Senior Principal, Malcolm Mateu, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered by the time of going to press.
Education officials from the county are expected to visit the school to assess the extent of the damage and engage students, parents and the school administration.
Authorities have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the unrest and identify those involved in the arson.
The incident adds to a growing list of cases of unrest in secondary schools across the country, often linked to student welfare concerns and rising cost of education.
