Students can now apply and revise courses they wish to pursue in institutions of higher learning after Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu officially opened the Kenya Universities and Colleges and Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal for the 2023/24 cohort.

Machogu launched the portal at the University of Nairobi’s Taifa Hall during the opening of the institution’s 7th Nairobi Innovation Week (NIW) on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, the CS told parliament that only students in public institutions will be funded by the government.

“Students who will select courses in public universities will be eligible to access both government scholarships and loans, while those who will select private universities will be eligible to government loans only,” he said.

All the 869,782 candidates will be eligible to enroll in any institution of their choice where 173,127 candidates who attained the minimum entry grade of C+ will enroll for degree courses.

According to Machogu, those who attained grade C and below will be absorbed in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country.

“They will also have opportunities to apply for HELB which will be allocated according to the level of each student’s need and no deserving student shall be denied an opportunity to acquire higher education,” he added.

Students are advised to login to the portal and apply and revise their applications before the set deadline of June 7, 2023.

Upon placement, the students will be expected to contact their respective institutions for joining instructions and guidance on how to apply for government scholarships and loans.

CS Machogu said the portal – students.kuccps.net – has information on the cost for courses of each university to guide learners to make informed decisions based on the family’s income.

The overall minimum entry requirement for Degree courses is a mean grade of C+ (plus), for Diploma courses is C- (minus), for Craft Certificate courses is D (plain) and for Artisan Certificate courses is E.
