Students demonstrate seeking reversal of Principal’s transfer

Students of Nduru High School have today taken to the streets to demand the reversal of the school’s Principal, Mr. Oyondi who was transferred in the recent wave of Principals’ transfers by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC)

They demanded the reversal of their Principal, whom they said reported at the school five days ago to replace Mr. Masime who was moved to his home area but trouble began when the students learnt that Mr. Oyondi was being transferred again to neighbouring Tabaka Mixed Secondary even before he settled at the new school.

“When they transfered our former principal and replaced him with this Oyondi we remained quiet and decided to welcome him because he is a performer but we were surprised to learn that he will be leaving,” said one student.

The more than 300 students walked for three kilometres to the County Education office to air their grievances.

Speaking to the students, Gucha South Education Director Mr. Ochwada asked the students to follow the right channels whenever they felt offended saying that such issues cannot be solved through hooliganism.

“We are in a civilized society where concerns should be addressed through dialogue. You are now heading to adulthood where you will be expected to carry yourselves with maturity and decor,” he said.

He thanked them for maintaining peace during the demonstration and asked them to return to school promising to take up the matter.

Mr. Ochwada also urged them not to waste their time on such matters that could be solved internally.

He highlighted the consequences of strikes such as the high cost of repairs imposed on parents, hostility between students and teachers which leads to poor performance.
