Students benefit from Presidential Bursary

Over 130 Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Narok North and East Sub Counties have benefited from the Presidential bursary given through the Department of Children.
Speaking recently when issuing the cheques, area County Childrens’ officer Pilot Khaemba said a total of Sh1,310, 400 was given to the needy children in the two sub counties.
“The cheques have been given to schools where each child got approximately Sh10, 000. 74 children benefited in Narok North and 69 children in Narok East”, he said.
Khaemba, however, lamented that the money was little to pay the full amount of fees for a whole year but confirmed the department will work with other departments like Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
Khaemba was speaking at Narok High School where guardians of children benefiting from the funds had met to receive their cheques.
Narok North Deputy County Commissioner Ronald Mwiwawi who chaired the meeting warned parents and guardians of the beneficiaries against subjecting their children to retrogressive cultural practices like early marriages, child labour and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). – Ben Leshau
