The police in Kisii County have started investigation on the cause of a road accident that claimed five people on Saturday evening.
According to Keroka Police boss Robert Ndambiri, one of the victims was an high school student from one of the reputable instructions in Siaya County.
“The evening has not been a good one because five people including a school boy died instantly in a fatal road accident,” he said.
Eye witness observed that the accident involved a 14 seater Matatu that collided with a trailer head on as it tried to evade a Bodaboda rider.
The Matatu was heading to Sotik from Kisii town when the misfortune occured at Amabuko area near Keroka town.
Good Samaritan rescued few casualties and rushed them to hospital while the police moved the five bodies to Gucha Sub-county Hospital to await identification by kins.
“We can not give the names of the victims untill the next of kin have been informed,” said the police boss.
Mr. Ndambiri cautioned drivers along the road against speedy driving especially at this on-going rain season when the roads are slippery.
He said that the condition of the road has worsened because it is under construction.
“Let all drivers, Bodaboda riders and the pedestrians be very careful on the use this highway inorder to avoid loosing more people here,” he cautioned.
The accident comes barely a week after two Bodaboda riders died a long the Kisii-Keroka road.
Residents have accused the contractors for dragging their feet on the construction and this they said, led to traffic congestion that caused accidents.
They asked the government to revoke their contracts or replace the contractors with competent ones to complete the work.
