The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open its portal for student to change their University and Courses.
Speaking during the University of Eldoret 9th Virtual Graduation ceremony, State Department for University Education and Research Principal Secretary Ambassador Simeon Nabukwesi ensured students that they will be able to choose the right courses.
A total of 1,809 graduands comprising of 20 PhDs, 44 Masters, 10 Post-Graduate Diploma, 1650 Bachelor’s Degree and 85 Diplomas were conferred and awarded with their honors.
“We will open KUCCPS portal on 1 September 2021 which will go all the way to 30 September 2021 for those who wish to change to different universities and faculties should use that opportunity since once close we will not reopen it again,” said the Principal Secretary.
He said students should use that opportunity to choose courses and universities of their choice where they may have made mistakes in one way or the other.
“I want to encourage guardian to assist them in choosing wisely basing on their capacities they are endowed with, gift, talents and interest. We do not want students to continue with courses that will not do well for them,” he added.
He however warned principals against imposing extra charges to students from day school saying those who will be found will face the full force of the law.
“It is sad that despite the Ministry of Education offering free day school education there are some principals who are fond of sending children home due to lack of fees, such students are not allowed to pay anything since it is catered for by the government,” he added.
He called on principals to report such rogue principals promising to take stern actions against them.
The University of Eldoret Vice Chancellor Prof. Teresa Akenga said the University has establishment Open and Distance E-Learning Directorate where the infrastructure has expanded from the initial one which accommodated about 2000 learners to the current which accommodates over 8000.
“Through the blended mod of teaching and learning we have been able to proceed without academic activities and our calendar will soon normalize. We have put in place strategies to redeem time lost last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic through digitalization while focusing on our mission of providing quality education, training, research and consultancy in science agriculture and technology to meet the needs and aspirations of a dynamic society,” she said
