Strengthen counseling departments in schools, says Misori

The Kenya National Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) has called for the enhancement of guidance and counseling departments in schools.

KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori said the Ministry of Education should ensure the departments have adequate capacity to deliver their mandate.

“Students unrest must be handled with a lot of seriousness. There is need to fully equip guidance and counselling departments in schools,” Misori told the press in Migori recently.

He rejected Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha proposal to reintroduce corporal punishment and urged the ministry to come up with alternative ways of taming rogue students.

Misori called for unity among teachers, political differences notwithstanding.

“We are all teachers and have similar interest. We should not let politics divide us. The union needs to remain united and strong to ensure we achieve our goals,” he added.
