Stop disrupting candidates, MCA tells school heads

By Cally Imbai

Isukha central Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Dan Mukofu has urged head teachers and Principals of all primary and secondary schools in his ward and Shinyalu constituency as a whole to allow candidates stay in school and study for their examinations without disruption.

The MCA decried the high rate at which learners were being sent home for fees by school heads terming it alarming and disruptive to the candidates’ preparations for their forthcoming national examinations.

“I want to urge our school heads and principals to be lenient and allow all candidates sitting for their [national] exams this year to remain in school. I take great concern for the students who are always on our roads going home for school fees including candidates,” Hon Mukofu stated.

He added: “This is not a good show at the moment since this might lead to poor performance and poor results in their final exams.”

This year, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will host examinations on three levels; the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE) for Form Four students, the Kenya Certificate for Primary Examinations (KCPE) for Class Eight learners and the first Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations for Grade Six learners.

However, the lawmaker who was speaking during prayers for St. Mary’s Girls Shibuye candidates, urged all parents to give necessary support to the candidates and allow them enough time for revision.

Hon. Makofu also donated lunch to cater for the candidates during the examination period later this month and wished all the candidates good.
