Makueni Kenya Secondary School Heads (KESSHA) Chairman, Johnstone Ndivo has advised teachers to stop committing suicide because it is not the solution but instead face challenges boldly to overcome them.

He said that as KESSHA they are committed to ensure teachers are comfortable as they perform their duties.

In the recent past there have been a spike in death by suicide attributed to financial challenges, marital issues and mental health problems.

Speaking during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Makueni Boys High School recently, he also advised school heads to ensure careful planning and making smart decisions so as to ensure smooth learning.

“There are issues of stress. Let us manage. There are those who have decided to commit suicide. This is not a solution. Let us see how we can face challenges as they come by,” he said.

“I know we make it. We want to see our teachers go through the journey peacefully. We have several teachers who are retiring this year. We want to see them retire peacefully and go for other jobs,” he added.

He thanked the government for releasing part of the school capitation funds which had delayed for a long time adding that it will ease some of the challenges faced by the schools.

Learning institutions will no longer get the usual funding allocated for Form One students, estimated at Sh22,244 a learner, as part of the Free Day Secondary Education programme.
