Stiff contests emerge in sprint races at TTC athletics competitions

Heavy contests were witnessed at the 100 metres race for the intercollegiate athletics that took place at Kigari Teachers College in Embu County during the 2022 Teachers College’s Atheletics Competitions.

The contest was pitting Braving Galigali Malesi from Mosoriot Teachers College in Rift valley who hit his personal best of 11:62 seconds followed by Lucheli Wilfred from Kaimosi Teacher College in Western region who hit the line at exactly 11:78 seconds.

Bernard Oduor from Kibabii Teachers College also in Western region swept the third position in the race in 11:84 seconds.

Wilson Lemushen from Narok Teacher College within Nairobi region made to secure position four in the highly contested race after hitting the finish line in 11:90 seconds.

Speedy action was also witnessed in men’s 200 metres as Mnangat Nelson from Chesta Teachers College in Rift valley who won as the best athlete in the championship made an interesting win, finishing in 22:87 seconds.

He attributed his win to enough practices and conducive climate at Kigari, saying the ground was okay for him to post such exemplary performance.

”I am grateful for this as it is a win for the Rift valley and Kenya, I look forward to doing much better in future,” said Nelson.

Nelson was followed by far by Kiprono Bett Erick from Kericho Teachers College within the same region who saw the finish line on 23:00 seconds.

Benerd Oduor who seems to be in love with position three came third as he did in the 100 metres race after finishing the 200 metres in 23:23 second.

In men’s 10,000 metres men walk, Francis Okaga from Eregi Teachers College braved the scorching sun to take the first position by finishing the walk in 55:36:62 minutes.

He was followed by his college mate, Oshali Thomas, who tightened the race to finish at 55:42:10 minutes.

Martin Njao from Kamwenja Teachers college came third after hitting the finish line at 56:27:50 minutes.

In the women 10,000 walk, Agnes Chepkite Riamarika, from Tambach TTC was the champion for the race in the 37th Kenya Intercollegiate Athletics Championship held at St. Mark’s Kigari Teachers College.

She posted an exemplary finish of 43:43:74 minutes against her closed competitor, Risper Kimayo, from Meru TTC in Eastern Region who finished at 44:08:20 minutes.

Cherono Winnie from Kericho TTC brought glory to the Rift after securing position three in the race in 45:47:18 minutes.

Asumbi Teachers College took home the trophy for the best team for visually impaired  after scoring a total of 156 points against Kagumo TTC  which came second with 97 points with Machakos TTC and Mosoriot TTC banking number three and  four respectively of 83 and 80 points.
