- Prof. Okumu Odhiambo moves from Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic to head Kisumu National Polytechnic; Gilbert Mwavali leaves RIAT to take Odhiambo’s former post at Kaimosi; and Wesley Yegon steps in as RIAT’s new Principal.
- Dr. Sheila Kandie has been appointed Principal of Baringo National Polytechnic, succeeding the retired Isaac Bwambok.
- The State Department has yet to name Dr Kandie’s replacement at Njoro Technical Training Institute.
The Ministry of Education(MoE) through the Department of Technical Education and Vocational Training has effected a sweeping reshuffle of principals across several national polytechnics, triggered by a wave of retirements at some of the country’s leading technical institutions.
The changes have set off a chain of transfers and promotions cutting across multiple institutions, with officials moving to fill vacancies left by outgoing principals while reassigning others to new stations.
At the centre of the reshuffle is Kisumu National Polytechnic, which will now be led by Prof. Okumu Odhiambo, previously the Chief Principal of Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic. Prof. Odhiambo takes over from Catherine Kelonye, who has retired from the institution.
His move to Kisumu has, in turn, created a vacancy at Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic, which will now be filled by Gilbert Mwavali, who previously served as Principal of the Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT).

Mwavali’s departure from RIAT has opened the door for Wesley Yegon, who has been serving as the Coast TVET Regional Director, to take over as the institute’s new Principal.
In a separate change, Baringo National Polytechnic will now be headed by Dr. Sheila Kandie, who moves in following the retirement of Isaac Bwambok as Principal. Dr. Kandie previously served as head of Njoro Technical Training Institute in Nakuru County.
By the time of publication, the State Department had not announced Dr. Kandie’s replacement at Njoro Technical Training Institute. However, sources familiar with the matter suggest that one of the institution’s deputy principals could be tapped to run the institute in an acting capacity as the department finalises its decision.
