A 14-year old girl is nursing serious injuries after being stabbed by another pupil using a knife during a fight over food in Kisimani village, Igembe South, Meru County.

The girl, who is a Standard Eight pupil at Kisimani Primary School, had gone to fetch water when her assailant came out from a bush and stabbed her on the head, mouth and nose.

The attacker, who is a Standard Seven pupil, fled from the scene after slashing Gloria leaving her bleeding excessively.

The victim’s aunt stated that a Good Samaritan found her lying by the road and took her home where she lives with her grandmother.

The victim was taken to Nyambene Level Four Hospital where she was sutured to stop the bleeding. She was then referred to Meru Level Five for further specialized treatment of the mouth and nose.

Dr Elaine Kamene, a dentist at Meru Level Five Hospital said the victim suffered superficial cuts on the head and that physicians had treated her nose and top lip.

“We are expecting that she will make a full recovery. The injured teeth will be immobilised and will be fully recovered in six months,” said Dr Kamere.

The KCPE candidate recounted the incident, saying she was given food by a teacher when the other pupil started mocking her that she always relied on the teachers’ food hand outs.

This escalated to a brief argument at school when the attacker later slashed her with a knife as she was on her way to fetch water after school.

“I thought the matter had been settled since I didn’t harbour any grudges. I was shocked when she stabbed me but I managed to knock and disarm her though she had already severely injured me. I am afraid of going back to the school since she might attack me again,” cried the victim.

The victim also stated that she wanted to sit for her KCPE hence pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.

She requested well-wishers to provide food for her grandmother, two orphaned cousins and her.

“The grandmother suffers from asthma and has high blood pressure and is also taking care of three children. Sometimes, they sleep hungry and that is why kind teachers usually assist her with food. She performs well and sometimes attains 280 marks despite the challenges she goes through,” said her aunt.
