Stakeholders urged to equip learning institutions

Stakeholders in the education sector have been urged to support learning institutions with facilities which will enhance delivery of quality teaching to benefit the learners.
A Nairobi businessman Macharia Kung’u called upon the well-endowed members of the society to support public schools with enabling physical infrastructure for conducive learning.
Kung’u said Kenyans have a responsibility to supplement Government efforts in provision of requisite resources needed to promote effective systems for teaching and learning.
He told parents in public primary schools in particular not to misconstrue the policy of Free Education Programme (FEP) and fail to provide resources which would facilitate activities in the schools.
He observed funds allocated under the FEP are not enough to meet all needs in schools and additional resources are required from stakeholders.
Kung’u made the remarks while presiding over a funds drive in aid Kenya Njeru primary school in Mathioya, Murang’a County.
He urged former students of the school to participate in improving physical facilities, provide learning, instructional materials, mentor the pupils and create a safe, childfriendly environment.
Among those who sent donations were Prof Peter Kagwanja who runs a supportive programme in the school.
Chairman of the Board of Management Francis Njinju said the institution is facing various challenges due to inadequate resources.
He said the school has shortage of classrooms, toilets for staff and pupils, books and teachers among others. Njinju said the acute teachers deficit has forced the parents to hire them to fill the gap.
