Stakeholders urged to double efforts to improve education standards in Kilifi

Education stakeholders in Kilifi county have been urged to double efforts towards improving education standards and boosting performance in national examinations.

Speaking to Education News in his Malindi town office recently, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kilifi branch Chairman Moses Mramba urged school heads to ensure they cover all syllabi as scheduled so as to pave the way for thorough revisions.

He called on sponsors and NGOs in the area to assist in providing materials and constructing infrastructure for schools in the area to enhance effective teaching and learning.

“Many primary and secondary schools in the region lack essential learning facilities, thus forcing children to learn under unconducive environments,” he lamented.

Mramba said that many development projects in schools in the county had stalled and asked the government to disburse sufficient funds.

He further urged the government to recruit more teachers to the county to end the understaffing crisis in schools, which he said contributed to the dismal performance by the area schools in national examinations.

The KNUT boss further asked education stakeholders to double their efforts towards re-admitting schoolgirls who dropped out of school due to early pregnancies and early marriages.
