Plans are at an advanced stage to elevate Eregi Teachers Training College in Ikolomani Constituency to a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

MPs Benard Shinali of Ikolomani and Fred Ikana of Shinyalu said today that the two colleges will complement each other in provision of quality education to residents and other Kenyans.

“Eregi TTC will be a constituent college of MMUST and will specialize in offering courses in education, from certificate to Degree levels, unlike this moment when it only goes up to Diploma,” said Shinali.

The two MPs said they were committed to transforming the livelihoods of residents of the two constituencies, which are variously likened to Siamese twins due to a mutual history and common infrastructure that they share.

“We shall also start putting up a Technical Training Institute in Ileho Division of Shinyalu beginning early next year. All these efforts are for the good of our people,” he said, further pointing out that construction of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) at Iguhu in Ikolomani was nearing completion and will be officially opened by President William Ruto early next year.

Speaking in Kakamega, the two leaders said they were working closely with both the national and county governments to ensure that they achieved their development agenda.

MMUST Vice Chancellor (VC) Solomon Shibairo confirmed the deal with Eregi TTC, which he said will go a long way in improving and expanding the institution’s curriculum.

“The upcoming partnership will see MMUST improve the education courses offered at Eregi TTC,” he said.

Prof. Shibailo said the university had also adopted Shivakala Primary School in Shinyalu as part of its efforts to give back to the local community.
