Stage set for Narok as term 1 secondary games kick off today

Tengecha Esoit handball team. The county term one games begin today.

The stage is set for Narok County secondary school term one games which get underway at Kilgoris Boys High School in Transmara West Sub-county today as the 2024 school games calendar gathers steam.

The schools will compete for honours in athletics, hockey, handball, basket 5×5 and 15 aside rugby in both boys and girls categories.

The participants emerged champions of their respective sub-counties which ran shortly before mid-term break.

According to the county chairman Peter Maritim, the 2-day event will also be spread to Kilgoris Girls, Sosio Secondary and Poroko Friends High School.

Maritim urged the students to take the tournament seriously and maintain high levels of discipline.

“We are expecting all the players to maintain discipline all the time they are in the competition because indiscipline will lead to your automatic disqualification,” he said.

Maritim also said such sporting activities offer a platform to students from various backgrounds to interact and share their diverse experiences as a way of inculcating tolerance.

He revealed that the games officials and referees were trained at the sub-county level and are expected to handle matters in a free and fair manner.

“We cannot condone poor officiating as the handlers are well-trained and expect them to perform their duties diligently and impartially without fear or favour,” said Maritim.

Association Secretary Jacob Barusei revealed that the draws for hockey, basketball 5×5 and rugby will be done on the day of kick off.

In boys handball, little-known Tengecha Esoit has landed in a tough pool consisting of four-time champions Chebitoik Day Secondary School in Pool A.

They will also face Rongena and Olposimoru secondary schools to wind up their group stage assignments.

The other group has Kilgoris Boys, Narok High School, Angata Barakoi Secondary School and Ntulele Secondary School.

On the girls’ side, the reigning champions Chebitoik Day will lead an onslaught in Pool A where they will battle it out with Kilgoris Girls, Tengecha Esoit and Olmariko.
