St Joseph, Itigo proceed to finals in regional Term II games after heated semi-final clashes

Football powerhouses St Joseph Boys High School and Itigo Girls High School are once again proving why they are considered giants in school games, after booking slots in the finals of the Rift Valley Secondary School Term II Games held in Uasin Gishu County.

With a rich football heritage, St Joseph Boys from Trans Nzoia County delivered a masterclass in their semi-final clash, dismantling Meteitei Secondary School from Nandi County 4-0.

The squad, which has remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, saw goals from Instine Simiyu, Mike Otieno, Jok Ruach, and Javan Omondi, showcasing their depth and cohesion.

They now face St Francis Kimuron Secondary School from Elgeyo Marakwet, who narrowly edged out Christ is the King Secondary School from Kajiado with a 1-0 win in a tightly contested semi-final. St Francis Kimuron’s tactical discipline and grit earned them their place in what promises to be a thrilling final.

Earlier, St Joseph had routed Ngamia One Secondary from Turkana 5-0 in the quarter-finals, with standout performer Tonny Mwale scoring twice, with Instine Simuyu, Mike Otieno and Roy Obondo each netting one goal. The team, under the stewardship of Chief Principal Cosmas Nabungolo, has scored 13 goals in just three matches, sending a strong message to their rivals.

In the girls’ category, Itigo Girls from Nandi County shocked tournament favorites Wiyeta Girls with a hard-fought 1-0 win. Wiyeta, who had crushed Moi Girls High School, Uasin Gishu 6-0 in the quarter-finals, were stunned by Itigo’s tactical brilliance and resilience.

Meanwhile, Cheptalal Girls Secondary School from Bomet County, the surprise package in volleyball, will face AIC Kosirai in the semi-finals. Defending volleyball champions Kesogon will battle St Joseph Kirandich of Nakuru for a spot in the finals.

In boys’ volleyball, Cheptil Boys continue their dominance and will square off against St Anthony Boys, while Chepsaita take on St Patrick’s Iten in another explosive semi-final showdown.
