Squatters evicted from varsity land

By Kese Werugha

Property worth millions has been destroyed after houses built on a disputed piece of land were demolished recently.
A bulldozer under the tight security of the police descended on the 50 acre piece of land at 5a.m in the morning and started demolishing houses following a court order.
Squatters who claimed to have been settled by the Government in 1997 have been battling in a court case with Pwani University which also claims to have acquired the land after the then Kilifi Institute of Agriculture which owned the land was elevated to university status in 2007.
The squatters under the Mtaani-Kisumu-Ndogo-Kibaoni extension settlement project lost the case in April last year and appealed.
