Special exam to be given to candidates who missed last KCPE

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu.

A special exam will be given to candidates who missed the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam in January to make it possible for all to transition to secondary school as the last cohort of 8-4-4, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced.

Speaking during the release of the 2023 KCPE results at the new Mitihani House of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) this morning, Machogu announced that the affected candidates will have another chance in a bid to ensure that no one in the last KCPE cohort misses Form One admission.

“To ensure that no candidate misses out in joining Form One from the final 2023 KCPE examination cohort, the Ministry of Education (MoE) will conduct through mapping of any of those who may have failed to sit their examination this year in order to administer a special exam in January 2024,” said the CS.

During the release at the new Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters, Machogu revealed that 9,354 candidates failed to take their exams.

1,406, 559 candidates did the exams and about 1.2 million did the KPSEA exams (Grade 6) between October 30 and November 1, marking the end of the 8-4-4 education system in primary school.
