Kericho Woman Representative Beatrice Kemei has urged parents in the county to stop being over-ambitious and instead accept their children’s exams performance.

She underscored the benefits of technical and vocational institutes, urging students who miss university entry points to enroll in the institutions.

“We saw on social media about a parent who allegedly killed his child because of results. This is wrong and we condemn this in the strongest terms possible.  We must accept the results our children get,” she added.

Speaking during the thanksgiving of students sponsored under the National Affirmative Action Funds (NGAAF) for their performance in Kipsitet, she asked youths to embrace the internet as an enabler for job creation.

She also commended the students, whose mean score was C+ of 7.3, and most of whom are teen mothers who had dropped out of school, further promising to continue supporting them.

“We have been sponsoring 21 teen mothers under the Mama Yao programme and we are so happy with their results. We have one Cheptoo, who scored B+, another one who scored C+ and also girl scooped an A. As an office, we will continue supporting these girls,” added Kemei.

Kemei is the patron of Usawa Kwa Wote Academy, an organisation that supports students from needy families to pursue their academics.

She congratulated all 2024 KCSE students, particularly those in her programme, on their exemplary performance.

“Hearty Congratulations to all KCSE candidates who have received their results. Special congratulations go out to our daughters and sons under the Usawa Kwa Wote scholarship programme who have made us proud by posting exemplary and exemplified performances,” she said.

The MP noted that she sponsored 21 students who took the KCSE in 2024, one of whom scored an A plain.

“Among the class of 2024, we sponsored 21 students from various secondary schools who have posted an impressive mean score of 7.33, translating to a mean grade of C+; one student scored a mean grade of A Plain,” she noted.

She mentioned a few of her top students including Faith Chepng’eno with an A plain from Litein Girls, and Ivy Cheruto with a B plain from Sigoti Complex.

Increase of bursary funds

Sigowett MCA Kiprotich Rogony lauded the programme, appealing for the increase of county bursary funds so as to benefit as many students as possible.

The beneficiaries, led by Clara Cheptoo, who scored a mean grade of B+, on their part, welcomed the scholarship, pointing out that it has revived their hope of attaining their dreams, which would otherwise have been elusive.

“I am so happy with my KCSE results. I had dropped out of school and have a child. I had lost hope of continuing with education but I am glad that Mheshimiwa Beatrice Kemei gave me this scholarship,” said Cheptoo.
