Sotik Member of Parliament,(MP) has called on all secondary school principals to comply with the government’s directive to release certificates for all Form Four leavers, regardless of outstanding school fee balances.
MP Francis Sigei emphasized that withholding certificates negatively impacts students, preventing them from pursuing higher education, securing employment, or enrolling in vocational training.
Speaking at Soymet Primary School during an education consultative meeting, Sigei reiterated that no student should be denied their right to academic documents due to financial challenges.
The MP urged school administrators to follow the Ministry of Education’s guidelines, prohibiting institutions from retaining certificates due to unpaid fees.

He noted that many students from underprivileged backgrounds struggle to clear school arrears, and denying them their certificates only worsens their situation.
“Education is a fundamental right, and no student should have their future jeopardized because of financial constraints. Schools must comply with the government’s policy and release these certificates without conditions,” Sigei stated.
The MP warned that schools failing to adhere to this directive could face consequences, including government intervention.
He called on education officials to ensure that all institutions under their jurisdiction comply with the policy.
Beyond addressing the issue of withheld certificates, Sigei also emphasized the importance of improving school infrastructure to create a better learning environment.
He highlighted the need for modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and adequate learning materials to enhance the quality of education in Sotik and surrounding areas.
The consultative meeting brought together school heads, education officers, parents, and other stakeholders to discuss ways to enhance the region’s education sector.
Various challenges were addressed, including inadequate facilities, teacher shortages, and the need for more government support.
Sigei reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the education sector by advocating for increased government funding to improve infrastructure and provide necessary resources for students and teachers.
