A social foundation has donated school items and accessories to over 1000 students who are joining Form One from Abothuguchi West Ward, Central Imenti Constituency in Meru County.
The children had a reason to smile after they received leather shoes, shoe polish, socks and other items to enable them join secondary school.

The basic items were given courtesy of the Patrick Muthuri Foundation run by Patrick Muthuri, who is the area MCA.

Speaking at Githongo Technical Training Institute during the donation exercise, Muthuri said the annual fete is meant to ensure 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary school, and to also boost the morale of the learners.
“The initiative is aimed at ensuring that there is a 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary school, thereby enhancing literacy levels in the area. When President Ruto started addressing issues regarding education, he found it best for the students joining Form One to wear leather shoes rather than the plastic ones they usually wear,” said the MCA.
Muthuri said the distribution of locally-made leather shoes and other items will also promote local industries, apart from ending the discomfort experienced during hot seasons by learners using plastic shoes.
He called on parents to support their children by following up on their performance and conduct and instilling discipline in them while in and out of school.
