SNE secondary school ball games to end today in Kisumu

Central Region has proved to be a powerhouse for the third year in a row by retaining the wheelchair basketball girl’s titles in the National Special Needs Education (SNE) Secondary Schools Championship in Kisumu County set to end today.

The region secured the win with 12 points, beating their close rival Western Region, which collected 10 points ahead of Nyanza Region, which took the third position with eight points.

The games, which kicked off last Friday, also saw Western Region bag the Amputee boy’s football title with 12 points as Central Region emerged second in a hotly contested match that saw Rift Valley and Nyanza tie at six points each.

In the cerebral palsy boy’s football category, Western Region scooped the title with eight points after trouncing Coast and Central, who tied with five points each.

Nyanza, on the other hand, bagged the para volleyball trophy with 12 points after beating Rift Valley. Western regions, on the other hand, managed 10 and eight points, respectively.

At the same time, Dancun Kimutai emerged as the player of the tournament during the blindfold goal game championship held at Kisumu Girls High School.

The Kenya National Special Needs Education (SNE) ball games championship attracted about 600 participants from at the eight regions in the country.

Kisumu County Deputy Governor, Mathew Owili, who flagged off the event at the Kisumu Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground in which the participants competed in at least thirteen sporting activities, commended the local stakeholders for offering the opportunity for the city to be chosen for this year’s event.

He stressed that the games transcended regional and cultural differences, pointing they played a critical role in uniting the country, as participants will have an opportunity to freely interact with others from diverse communities, during the weeklong championship.

Owili who represented Kisumu Governor, Anyang Nyongo, said the sports would provide a platform where young and emerging talents, could showcase their potentials in ball games with future of participating in both National and International events.
