Smooth Form One admission being witnessed nationwide

Form One admissions in secondary schools across the country has taken place smoothly, Education News has reliably observed.

Slightly over 830,000 pupils who sat 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations and were selected to join 9,200 schools across the county are expected to be admitted to their respective schools.

Wanja Mwaura , a parent whose child was joining Form One at Kisii High School, expressed her joy on social media after successful admission.

“Finally, he is officially a student at Kisii High School. The admission process was so smooth. The school management was well organised. We pray for our sons and daughters that the Lord will watch over them,” said Mwaura, a philanthropist from Nairobi County.

Samati Kemboi , another parent , also shared his experience online after accompanying his son to join secondary school.

“I woke up early today to see him off to school at St. Patrick’s High School-Iten. All the best son,” Kemboi said.

Earlier on, some parents had expressed their displeasure in the manner in which the Form One placement was conducted by the Ministry of Education.

Before the selection process in April, parents from Kiambu County asked Education CS Prof. George Magoha to ensure that all candidates who scored 400 marks  and above are placed in national schools across the country and not only concentrated in top county schools.

High Court Advocate Fridah Lotuiya, who represented parents from Baringo County and is also seeking the Baringo South Parliamentary seat , asked the CS that candidates who sat for exams in areas affected by insecurity should be given priority in the Form One selection exercise as they were affected by banditry while sitting KCPE.

“KCPE candidates especially from Baringo South and Baringo North were affected by banditry and did not get a conducive environment to write their national exams,” Lotuiya said.

Last week, there were changes in the Form One admission date after the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination gazetted May 3 as a public holiday to honour Eid al-Fitr. May 3 was the initial reporting date.
