Six JKUAT students awarded in the first KIKI scholarship

Six students from two departments at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) – Horticulture and Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering – have received the first KIKI Trust Fund Scholarship for excellence in academia.

Paul Joshua Iligha, Solomon Ohare Owiti, Thomas Antone Odongo (Horticulture), Mbarak Abdalla Salimin, Brian Omondi Ambonya and Leans Bruno Kipkorir (Civil Engineering) each took home Ksh100,000 and a certificate of recognition for their exemplary academic performance in the year 2022-2023.

The KIKI Trust Fund was established by Prof Makoto Kimura and the Late Kiyoshi Kita. The two individuals dedicated their lives to the betterment of the people of Kenya, particularly in the fields of horticulture and civil engineering.

During the award presentation, KIKI Trust Fund Trustees Prof Kiptanui Too, and Dr Mercy Mwaniki announced that the KIKI award scheme, totalling Ksh3,000,000, will be available for the next five academic years.

Expressing gratitude for the fund, JKUAT Vice Chancellor Prof Victoria Wambui Ngumi acknowledged the profound impact of the two founders on education and capacity building at JKUAT and across the African continent.

She advised the six students to embrace the scholarship opportunity with dignity and commended them for their unwavering dedication to excellence.
