Siaya KMTC campus roots for enrolment

By Erick Nyayiera

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Siaya Campus has established a citizens’ help desk with a view to improve the area residents’ enrolment for medical courses.
According to the Principal of Siaya KMTC David Okwach, the desk will help in sensitising the locals on the benefit on the courses offered at the various Kenya Medical Training Colleges across the country and to encourage them to go for medical courses.
Okwach revealed that the decision to put up the citizens’ help desk was arrived at following the low enrolment of students from Siaya County in the Medical Training Colleges.
The Principal who was speaking during the inauguration of the Citizens help desk at the campus lamented that despite the provision of the 30 per cent enrolment chances for the locals, students from Siaya County were still very few, not only at the Siaya KMTC but also in other campuses countrywide.
He stated that they have realized that there are a lot of people in Siaya County who are qualified enough to enrol for medical courses but have not been doing so due to lack of knowledge on the processes of making applications.
The occasion was graced by Siaya Deputy Governor James Okumbe, the CEC Member for Education Dorothy Owino and her Health counterpart Mary Omondi who welcomed the initiative, noting that it will greatly help in improving enrolment at the institution.
