Siaya County mourns tragic loss of two students in Ramba Boys’ septic tank accident

The two form 4 boys who succumbed are David Awinda and Ogola Rian.

The County Government of Siaya has expressed sorrow in an incident report at Ramba Boys, where two students perished after falling into a septic tank.

The two students are believed to have sunk in a school toilet that collapsed at around 6pm yesterday.

“We wish to assure the public of our commitment to safely rescue the victims who are reported to be still stranded in the toilet,” reads a press statement.

In collaboration with the school administration, we have provided the school with a waste exhauster and an ambulance for evacuation of emergency cases that may arise.

“Most importantly, our emergency team is at the scene to help with the rescue mission, and we shall keep you posted with the latest development,” the statement added.

Additionally, it went ahead to state that Governor James Orengo wishes to guarantee every child the right to education, safety, and protection from all forms of harm while urging schools to adhere to set out stringent safety and protection.

The governor’s office urged the public to stay calm as it endeavoured to salvage the situation.

Meanwhile, the Ramba High School fraternity in Rarieda has been plunged into mourning following the deaths of two students who perished after falling inside the learning institution’s latrines.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the students visited the old facilities.

Siaya County’s Director of Education, Mbugua Kabaki, confirmed the unfortunate incident and said investigations have been launched.

He said the bodies of the two students had been moved to a local morgue.
