Showcase of talent in theatre arts at varsity gala

Kisii University had an entertaining week that culminated in competitions in art-related performances as part of the practical segment for the Theatre Arts unit (Lit 324) was done ahead of the main examination on the unit.

The event was graced and set off to roll by Prof. John Akama, Kisii University Vice Chancellor, as the current third years’ in the School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) and School of Education & Human Resource Development (SEDHURED), the founding school of Kisii University, put into place the theoretical lessons taught within the confines of the classrooms.

The competitions climaxed on March 24, 2023, with a Gala, which turned out to be an educative and thrilling experience for the performers and the audience.

“If after every semester, from every unit taught in the universities, the learners could come up with the help of the lecturers, with something tangible, it would take us a very short time as a country to begin to pick up and grow,” Dr. Nyandoro senior lecturer of Literature and Theatre Arts said.

Obino Nyambane, the Director of Culture in Kisii County, applauded the students and encouraged them to work hard on their talent emphasizing that art is a powerful way of passing information.

The events included; Folk dance, Karaoke, Choral elocutionary verse, Solo dramatized verse, Choral dramatized verse, Gospel dance and Modern dance.

The Quakers and Superstars took the lion’s share in the awards with both the two teams winning three different categories of events as Rong` Rende and Elites winning one each.
