The recruitment drive to replace 2,014 teachers who exited the Teachers Service Commission’s, (TSC’s) payroll is coming up with damning claims of change of identification cards, false marriage documents and acquisition of doubtful disability cards amongst the applicants.
In what is seen as a frantic attempt to secure employment by all means, teacher applicants are reported to have devised and employed every strategy which is reported to have once again dented the credibility of the exercise.
Speaking to Education News in Bungoma, unsuccessful applicants lamented that some of their colleagues came while armed with marriage documents in a bid to try proof to the panel that they had been married within the sub counties they were attending verification yet, they were not yet married.

“We know many of them to be single and some married elsewhere but they had what looked like genuine documents,” wondered Hassan.
Change of identification cards to sub counties, applicants felt they had year of graduation edge over the locals were mainly reported in North Rift counties. Speaking to Education News from Eldoret, Kapsabet and Kapenguria, unsuccessful applicants pointed fingers to the panelists for giving slots to non-locals who had recently switched localities.
“How does the panel consider someone who, a month ago was a resident of another sub county only to produce an identification card indicating that he is a resident of this sub county,” asked Long’ura from Kitale.
The applicants further blamed the TSC officers for colluding with some applicants in denying the locals their rightful share.
“Some applicants were openly chest thumping claiming that the process to them was a mere formality,” claimed one unsuccessful applicant from Eldoret. The applicants read a riot act to TSC officers that there are some officers they won’t accept to sit in the recruitment panel in any upcoming exercise.

Increased presentation of disability documents was reported to have characterized the concluded verification, Education News found out that some of the applicants who presented the documents had no visible nor identifiable disabilities.
Recently, this platform reported an upcoming trend where teachers are flocking disability assessment centres to acquire the documents. As replacement exercise comes to an end, TSC should have recruitment complains desk that will address dissatisfaction of the applications as reported from various counties.
