A Form Four candidate from St. Philips Day Mixed Secondary School in Kirinyaga County missed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination after being allegedly drugged by unknown individuals on his way to school.

The reports say that the student, identified as Wycliffe Muthii, was later found in Makuyu, Murang’a County, by a good Samaritan who took him to the Makuyu Police Station.

According to his parents, Julius Wamugunda and Mercy Wambura, their son woke up early on Monday morning, prepared tea, and left their home in Kiaga Village, Kanyekiine Ward, Kirinyaga Central, at around 6 a.m., eager to sit for his national examination.

“I was shocked when the school called to ask where my son was as the exams were about to start,” said Wambura. “I couldn’t believe it because I had just wished him good luck that morning.”

The father, Wamugunda, said teachers even visited their home to inquire about the boy’s whereabouts after he failed to show up at school.

When news of Muthii’s disappearance spread in Kiaga Village, about five kilometers from the school, villagers, led by his Aunt Roselyn Warui, began searching for him and reported the matter to local police stations.

“While we were still looking for him, I received a call from a police officer at Makuyu Police Station asking if I knew a boy named Wycliffe,” Warui said. “When I spoke to him, he sounded confused. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.”

The family later traveled to Makuyu to retrieve the boy and took him to Sagana Sub-County Hospital for medical attention.

An emotional Wambura questioned why anyone would harm her son on such an important day.

“Who would drug my son on his way to do his exams?” she asked tearfully.

Police have launched investigations into the incident as the boy continue to recover in the hospital
