Member of Parliament of Kaiti Constituency Joshua Kimilu has called upon police to be move with speed in eradicating illicit brew locally known as karubu in Makueni County especially at Iuani area.

This follows a shocking incident where nursery school children consumed the illegal brew they found hidden in the bush on their way to school.

“The nursery school kids found karubu hidden in the bush and they imbibed the drink only for them to go and start hallucinating in class. It’s a shame and worry at the same time. How can parents be so much careless? We as parents should know what to keep open and what to keep far from our children,” he said.

He urged police and local administration to scale up their daily patrol so that they can alleviate the problem.

He warned the illicit liquor can cause many children drop out of school. Kimilu was speaking at Kilala area during the issuance of bursary.

On the issue of 100 percent transition to secondary school, he urged chiefs to make sure that no child who is supposed to join secondary school is at home.

He called upon parents to make sure that their children attend church where they will be taught good morals.
