Shock and grief have engulfed residents of Kakrao Ward in Suna East, Migori County, after the body of a missing primary school teacher was discovered in a nearby thicket.
The deceased, identified as Kevin Owuor, had been reported missing by his family after he failed to return home on Friday, February 6, evening.
According to relatives, he had earlier left home to see off a colleague and was last seen in the company of a neighbour.
When he did not return, family members became concerned and began searching for him. They later reported the matter at Migori Police Station and continued looking for him in nearby areas.
However, the search came to a tragic end on Sunday when students from Kakrao Technical Training Institute reportedly came across a body in a thicket not far from residential homes.
The discovery was reported to local authorities, who later confirmed that the body was that of the missing teacher.
Upper Kakrao Assistant Chief Wilfred Onyango confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary observations suggested the teacher may have been attacked elsewhere and the body later abandoned at the site where it was found.

“The deceased was last seen on Friday evening, and after he went missing, the family reported the matter. Investigations are ongoing to establish what exactly happened and who may be responsible,” Onyango said.
He added that there were indications the body had been moved to the thicket, leading investigators to believe the crime might not have occurred at the exact location where the remains were discovered.
Family members expressed deep sorrow following the confirmation of Owuor’s death. His mother, Monica Owuor, said the family had hoped he would be found alive after the missing person report was filed at both Migori and Uriri police stations.
“We were still searching and praying for his safe return. It is very painful for the family, and at the moment we are struggling to come to terms with what has happened,” she said.
Residents in the area have called on security agencies to intensify patrols, saying there have been growing concerns about criminal activities in some parts of the county. Some locals suspect the killing could be linked to criminal gangs, although police have not confirmed any motive.
Police officers visited the scene and moved the body to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to help determine the cause of death.
Authorities have launched investigations and appealed to members of the public to share any information that could assist in identifying those responsible.
The death of the teacher, described by neighbours as quiet and hardworking, has left many in the community shaken, with colleagues, students, and residents calling for justice and improved security in the area.
