Shock as gang raids school, laces foodstuff with rat poison

KNUT

Learning at Chepkotii School in West Pokot County came to a standstill after learners arrived in the morning and found the school had been broken into last night.

Head teacher Mr. Benard Chemiati was further distraught upon realizing that food in the school kitchen meant for consumption during lunch was laced with rat poison, questioning the intentions of the perpetrators.

Parents who speedily visited the school to ascertain their children’s safety, condemned the inhumane act and castigated the act.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) West Pokot branch Executive Secretary Mr. Martin Sembelo condemned the heinous act and appealed to the Police to launch an intensive and speedy investigation to bring the perpetrators to book.

Sembelo then reprimanded the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for dishonouring the direction by the Parliament to reverse the delocalization policy.

“Teachers and education administrators have been held captive in Trans-Nzoia and Uasin Gishu counties yet we have an acute shortage of teachers here,” he said, adding that an urgent intervention needed to be taken to take the teachers back to their home counties.
