Shock as boy dies in school in mysterious circumstances

A family in Masongo village is in mourning after their 14-year-old son passed away under mysterious circumstances on Friday while in school.

According to Nyamonema Primary School Headteacher, where the late Brian Matara was a Grade 8 student, the boy collapsed while he was playing with colleagues at the school playground.

His father, Evans Matara was summoned immediately and together with teachers they rushed Brian to Masongo Community Health Centre where they were referred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH).

“I received the sad news through his classmate who was sent by the Headteacher to summon me,” he recalled.

He said that he was devastated when he found his son receiving first aid laid in a van.

Brian was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and the body moved to the facility’s mortuary for postmortem.

KTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Oimeke Narita confirmed the death and receipt of the body.

When asked for details surrounding the death, he declined to comment and asked for patience as the police begin investigations.

Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kesses confirmed the death and asked the family to remain calm to allow for investigations.
