Nyeri County Government has distributed learning materials worth Sh2 million to all 427 ECDE centers in the county.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said the programme will be continuous in the next five years to ensure that learners in the centers have proper learning materials.
The Governor spoke during the flagging off of the learning materials to the centers outside his Nyeri town office recently.
Recently, the County Government hired over 600 ECDE teachers for the institutions.
He noted that zero to eight years is a very crucial stage in human development. He said his Government will ensure ECDE infrastructure is well developed.
The Government has, in the last one year, been able to put up 16 classrooms and renovated a number of them within the existing structures.
“Looking forward, we intend to double that number this financial year. We have also realised that we as adults have not treated ECDE learners well,” noted the Governor.
He said in most primary schools, the toilets used by ECDE pupils are not conducive to the youngsters as they were built for their elder colleagues in primary schools.
However, the Governor said, his Government has this year embarked on a project of constructing fitting toilets for the learners saying it has put up 16 toilets all over the county.
